The Popularity of the Hummingbird Tattoo

Hummingbird tattoos are becoming more and more popular these days. They lend for intriguing artistic design and are full of sweet and sentimental symbolism. Of the percentage of adults that have tattoos, the majority have small tattoos that can be hidden if necessary for work. Hummingbirds are an ideal tattoo because of their small stature.

Hummingbirds are not the only bird popularized in tattoo art. Swallows, American Eagles and and tribal bird tattoos are very popular. The hummingbird, in symbolism, is seen as a talisman for love. Other representations include the idea that the hummingbird is a reminder to enjoy everyday things in life by taking the time to see the beauty in nature. The hummingbird is also a symbol of joy and celebration making it an ideal tattoo for anyone having cause to celebrate life!

Getting to Know Mr.Hummingbird

Hummingbirds only drink sweet nectar from flowers. If the sugar content is less than ten percent in a flower's nectar, the hummingbird will not drink it. Because nectar is low in protein, the hummingbird will supplement its diet with insects. The hummingbird has a very high metabolism and if food is scarce, the hummingbird can go into a state similar to hibernation in order to conserve its fuel. They can consume 12 times their body weight daily.

Hummingbirds are the only birds who can fly backwards. Science has been studying the aerodynamics of hummingbird flight. The hummingbird flaps its wings up to 25 times per second. That is up to 1,500 times per minute. The hummingbird's heartbeats can reach up to 1,250 beats per minute. Considering their high metabolism, hummingbirds have a high life span compared to other animals with such high metabolisms. They can live up to 10 years but average a 3 to 5 year lifespan.

Hummingbird Tattoo Stencils

Tattoo stencils are pre-designed works of art used by tattoo artists. They can also be used for people thinking about getting a certain tattoo. They allow for experimentation and will help you decide what area of the body is the best for the tattoo.

If you are thinking about getting a hummingbird tattoo, invest in a stencil first. Apply the tattoo to your body in the area you think the design would fit best. Use tattoo stencil body paint to apply the design. If you do not like the look or placement, that is ok. Re-apply the tattoo at a different angle or in a different location. Once you are happy with the look and placement and you feel that you could live with this design on your body for the rest of your life, you can go ahead and get the tattoo permanently placed on your body by an experienced tattoo artist.

Henna

A non-permanent solution for applying a tattoo. Use a stencil and apply the henna. This is an easy way to see if you can live with a tattoo on a certain spot of your body permanently.

"By the way, did you fellows know that a hummingbird weighs as much as a quarter? Do you think a hummingbird also weighs the same as two dimes and a nickel? But then she asked a question of her own: How do they weigh a hummingbird?"
